About Ronald


Ronald R. Petroff is the Founder and Managing Partner of Petroff Law Offices, LLC, one of Ohio’s leading family law and domestic relations firms. Based in Columbus and representing clients throughout the State of Ohio, Mr. Petroff focuses his practice on complex divorce and dissolution matters, high-conflict custody litigation, post-decree disputes, high-asset property division, and appellate advocacy.


Known for his strategic approach, strong courtroom presence, and practical problem-solving skills, Mr. Petroff has built a reputation for delivering sophisticated representation in emotionally and financially complex family law matters. He is particularly recognized for his work involving business-owner divorces, contested custody cases, and alternative dispute resolution strategies designed to protect families while achieving efficient outcomes.


Mr. Petroff earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, graduating cum laude with dual majors in Political Science and American History. He then attended The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he earned a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution, competed on both the National Labor and Employment Moot Court Team and National Trial Competition Team, and received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the Class Criminal Law in the Boardroom.


Before founding Petroff Law Offices, LLC, Mr. Petroff gained experience working with respected legal institutions including Thompson Hine, the Honorable Kathleen M. O’Malley of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and Buckley King.


Over the course of his career, Mr. Petroff has been recognized by numerous professional organizations for excellence in family law advocacy and client service. His honors include selection to Columbus Business First’s “40 Under 40,” recognition among the Nation’s Top One Percent by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel, repeated distinctions from the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, and a longstanding “Superb” AVVO rating. He has also been recognized among Columbus CEO’s Top Lawyers and has earned Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished ratings for both legal ability and ethical standards. The firm he founded in 2007 has seen exponential growth and continues to receive state and national recognition in excellence in Family Law.


In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Petroff is an active speaker and educator within the legal community. He frequently presents Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs and professional seminars on topics including divorce negotiation strategy, alternative dispute resolution, collaborative law, and ethical considerations in domestic relations practice both on the national and state level. His speaking engagements have included presentations for The National Business Institute, myLawCLE, The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Symposium on Dispute Resolution, The Ohio Supreme Court Mentoring Program, and various legal and academic organizations throughout the state of Ohio. He is a very dynamic speaker and podcast guest.


Mr. Petroff is admitted to practice before all Ohio state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio. He remains active in numerous professional and community organizations and is passionate about mentorship, legal education, and advocacy within the family law profession.


Outside the practice of law, Mr. Petroff enjoys luxury travel, SCUBA diving, racquet sports, movies, and spending quality time with his family. He is also a dedicated supporter of both The Ohio State University and Vanderbilt University athletic programs.
